1.6.4 - Temple of Njord

Njord's temple was a drowned and stagnant thing, and it did not want you stirring its waters.

The warmth of Frigg's memory faded behind you into the cold mist of Njord's cavern. Once this lake had mirrored the sea above. Now it lay black and stinking, algae drifting like green veins, the sunken temple a faint glimmer far below. The water nymph's gift sat cool in your lungs, and you went down into it.

At the lake's floor a great stone gate carved with Njord's waves and trade ships barred the way, three of his priests' statues floating nearby, each stripped of its holy shell. You found the shells and set them back, and the current calmed in sign of the Sea-Father's approval, the gate grinding open. Deeper in waited half-flooded corridors and mirror-bright air pockets, and a whispering current with a price: to raise the sea's favour, still your storms within. You brought calm to the drowned halls rather than violence, and the raging water settled into a passable stair leading down toward Njord's heart.

Remember For Next Time

  • Njord's temple is drowned and corrupted: its once-pure waters have gone stagnant and hostile.
  • It rewards reverence: restoring the priests' shells and calming the waters opened the way. Force only angers the tide.
  • Deeper still: the path to Njord's heart, and his rune, lies below.

Where We Are

Descending the drowned stair into the heart of Njord's temple, the way calmed but the corruption not yet faced.
