Description

A small, delicate pendant on a fine chain, carved in the shape of a bird mid-flight. Nothing about it looks magical at rest — it reads as a keepsake, because that's exactly what it started as.

Origin

Liora was one of the three friends who bought Riven's escape from the orphanage in The Middens with their own capture — alongside Torran and Etta, who gave him the hornbow that would become Winter's Vigil. This necklace was Liora's gift to him in the years before that, a small treasured thing from brighter days, carried ever since as one of the only pieces of them he had left.

How It Became What It Is

During his travels, Riven crossed paths with Hannah — wary, guarded, distrusting of everyone around her. Something in her reminded him of Liora's kindness, and on a gesture of hope more than calculation, he gave the necklace to her, hoping it might soften what she'd walled off.

When it eventually made its way back to Riven, it wasn't the same object. Something in the giving and the returning had changed it — a conduit of gentle magic now, carrying forward the memory that even the most guarded souls can be softened by a sincere act of kindness. Its connection to Hannah, whatever she has become since, remains unresolved.
