1.2.3 - What remains¶
You opened the warehouse door, and the smell told you what the Uzzikh had been doing before your eyes could.
The smell reached you first. Death, old blood and bone, and then the sight of it: elven bodies heaped on the far side, the freshest of them flayed and roped to tables and crates, limp and unconscious. From a closed office came light and screaming. An interrogation still underway. The Uzzikh had been at this for two days, killing elves for scraps about the missing Rashan, and now they had Veylith.
In the office was Bloodsnout, an ork in red and purple command leathers, tusks jutting from his lower jaw, a bat wound in barbed wire bleeding onto the floor at his feet. He did not believe he was doing anything wrong, and he honestly did not know why you had come. There was a version of this where words might have worked. This was not that version. The fight broke fast and ugly. Three of his warriors went down breathing. Five did not, Bloodsnout among them. You took his barbed bat, Vorgra, off his corpse and cut Veylith loose.
You walked out harder than you walked in, with a rescued elf and a building full of the Pact's quiet cruelty left behind you.
Remember For Next Time¶
- Veylith is free: Loki's Hand's elven contact, pulled out of Bloodsnout's interrogation alive.
- Bloodsnout dead: you claimed his barbed-wire bat, Vorgra, and left five Uzzikh dead, three unconscious.
- Rashan still missing: the Uzzikh tortured and killed elves for two days over her and learned nothing. She is still gone.
