1.2.5 - The Undercroft

Varka opened a trapdoor under the floor of her ruined tavern and sent you down it to finish Brelka for good.

Varka stood over the carnage with a bloody cutlass and white-hot rage, naming Brelka every filthy thing she could reach for. Half her regulars dead. Kvarrac gutted. She knew where the coward had run: down into the Undercroft, to hide and to recruit more cursed things to her side. She kicked aside a barrel, sank her axe through the floorboards onto a hollow thud, and hauled up the trapdoor. She would stay above to stitch the wounded, drop the dead off the pier, and keep mouths shut. You would go down and cut the rot out. Do that, she said, and you would rebuild the Hand together, maybe even into the thing Kvarrac always talked about.

Down you went. Rats first, caught feeding on a corpse at an overlook. Then a rest that did not stay restful, the watch slipping just as carrion crawlers came up out of the dark. You put them down without anyone going stiff, and only then thought to search the body the rats had been eating. Hanzt turned up a small cache of potions and named them on sight, and somewhere in the picking-over he found he could learn formulas and recipes from what he scavenged. You healed up overlooking the cave, the hunt still ahead.

Remember For Next Time

  • The hunt is sanctioned: Varka has sent you into the Undercroft to kill Brelka and end the threat. Finish it, and you help rebuild Loki's Hand.
  • Hanzt's craft: he can now learn alchemical formulas and recipes from what he scavenges.

Where We Are

Rested at the lip of the Undercroft caves, hunting Brelka into the dark.
