1.4.07 - Drawn lines¶
The elves smuggled you under the city and out behind the Pact's lines, with three commanders to kill before the runners got back.
The hill had bought time, not safety. The Pact kept grinding deeper, two blocks gained for every one you took, their numbers seemingly without end. So you stopped trying to match them block for block and went for the head instead. The elves used the catacombs to slip you behind enemy lines, up into the heart of the Elven Ghetto where the Pact's force was camped, three divisions still split along the old lines of race and clan, their commanders' tent pitched in the centre. Take the commanders and the whole force comes apart.
They were proud and they underestimated you, and they did not run. You struck the command tent and broke them before runners could bring reinforcements. It cost the elves the ghetto itself in the end, but the blow landed. The Pact's advance stalled, their next push blunted, their momentum bled out. You came away the richer for it too, gemstones off the dead.
Remember For Next Time¶
- You decapitated a Pact force: the commanders in the Elven Ghetto are dead, and the Pact's advance has stalled.
- The cost: the ghetto fell even so. This is still a war of trades.
- The catacombs are a back door: the elves can move you under the city, behind the Pact's lines.
Where We Are¶
Pulling back from the Elven Ghetto with the Pact's commanders dead and their advance stalled, the war still undecided.
