Act 1 — Hammerfall

A recap of the campaign's first act, for anyone catching up before diving into the session-by-session notes below.

The Fall of Hammerfall

The party began as nameless soldiers in the horde that finally took Hammerfall — Norse and Ork rowing side by side, led into the catacombs beneath the city by the black-robed Chosen on the promise of a hidden way in. They fought their way up through kobolds and elves alike, and emerged into the conquered city as four survivors among many.

Loki's Hand

Ten years later, broke and scattered, the party reunited at Varka's Black Tide Tavern and fell into the service of Kvarrac's Loki's Hand — smuggling runs that turned into a rescue of the elven contact Veylith Lorarion from an Uzzikh warband, and a haul that included Vorgra, taken off the ork Bloodsnout. It didn't stay simple. Brelka, one of Kvarrac's own, murdered him and revealed herself a wererat, dragging half the Hand into open war with itself. The party hunted her into the Undercroft and killed her in Loki's own temple — and that's where Gunnar picked up Loki's Kiss, a ring that has never come off since.

The Elven Rebellion

A vision at the Midsommerblót revealed Gunnar's parentage, and that same night Heimdall himself walked into the tavern and charged the party with finding his lost daughter — a girl they'd freed from a shattered ruby portal at the very start, without knowing who she was. The next morning the Eastern Shallows rose up against the Pact's cruelty. The party sided with Veylith and the elves: holding ground, decapitating Pact warcamps, waking the ancestral dead at Heimdall's temple, and finally forcing a reckoning that ended not in the Pact's surrender, but in the ground itself tearing open into a gate to Hel.

Ygritte, and the Sealed Door

At the Pact's council in Upper Hammerfall, the party met the men who ruled the city — and watched Jarl Ivar's stolen wife, Ygritte, dragged down into the Pit by creatures who weren't there to fight. Following her captors into the catacombs, they found a name erased from the Thrandurassil royal line: Hannah, daughter of Queen Aduni and sister to Caerdan, struck from her own family's memory. Deeper still waited her empty tomb, and a vast sealed door carved with eight missing divine symbols — the Pilgrimage of the Eight.

The Speaker's Trap

At Njord's drowned temple the party claimed a fourth rune — and walked straight back into the Speaker's confession. The girl they'd freed from the portal at the beginning of it all had been Hannah's imprisoned soul. She had given herself to Osgilliath centuries ago and risen as Hannah the Forsaken, and freeing that ruby had set her resurrection back in motion. The Speaker shed his disguise, the Blood Elves fell on Hammerfall, and in the massacre that followed Ivar died — spared by Balder, finished by his own claimed son. The Speaker died too, and his notes left five nights until midnight, and the Pact dissolved into its separate factions overnight.

The Pilgrimage, Finished

Five nights became a race through all eight temples: Tyr's Hall of Measured Wrongs and chained Judgment, a fifth-century kobold settlement at Odin's sanctum, Thor's flooded storm-trial (where Hanzt's crossbow came back rebuilt as Storm's Essence), and finally Freya's temple beneath the Hollow Coin in Richeri — paired trials, a silver cord, a rainbow bridge, and a bow that revealed itself as Tyr's Measure on the way out. Eight runes, seated in the door, and the door and the ritual turned out to be the same act. Opening it completed it.

Hannah

What rose from the ruined sanctum was Hannah the Forsaken, five centuries of corruption wearing a body not entirely her own. The fight that followed cost the party everything they had — until Hannah clawed through the corruption three times to warn them, to beg them to keep fighting, and finally to ask them to let her end it herself. They said yes without discussion. She died on her own terms, and Heimdall was there to witness it, silent, and then gone.

For one minute, Hammerfall had won.

Then Yennen stepped forward with Guild soldiers at his back, and the Pact — three of its four chairs already ash — passed into Guild administration before the survivors could even leave the ruin. The party ended Act 1 alive, bound, and in custody, by someone's very specific instruction.
