Hreidmar

The place under the mountain where The Guild held the party after Hannah died.

The Cells

Rows of cells cut into rock that somebody carved long ago with knotwork and angular letters, worn almost flat by the centuries. Iron doors with no handles, and a hatch at the foot of each. The Guild sorted its prisoners into the rows by race. One cell held nobody living: its iron door had melted shut in the frame, and a skeleton sat against the back wall with a cracked mirror in its hand and soot burned around it like a shadow.

The Resting Place

A secret way through the tunnels led to a place where three passages meet. A small rock pool, black and still. Benches cut into the walls. A vast relief across the far wall, dwarves and otters at play in the water, and behind it a narrow passage. It opened when Yennen went into the pool as an otter.

The Oasis

The passage climbs over wet rock to a vast cave. At its far end the rock opens to the sky, and a river pours over the edge into a wall of white mist. Daylight falls on an island ringed by narrow black channels: palm trees, ferns, moss and grass, a clear spring under an overhang of rock. A great golden gong hangs at its heart. When the Guild rang it, the sound went into every tunnel in the mountain and did not fade.

The company left Hreidmar over the falls.
